On Thursday April 24th, Hurst Contemporary will open a new show titled ‘A Third Hand’ an exhibition curated by Thom Oosterhof. The gallery will welcome the work of international artists Ina Gerken (1987) Paul Verdell (1991) Julia Bennett (1995) Ji Won Cha (1997) Andre Hemer (1981) Samuel Bassett (1982)
For this exhibition curator Thom Oosterhof was inspired by the following quote from Philip Guston. “Everyone who creates anything knows, there is a moment, when a third hand is doing it.” Recognising our intrinsic ‘intuition’, the exhibition explores how artists find another ‘level’ or form of expression through the presence of a ‘third hand’. This external influence often accessed from a ‘no-mind’ state of pure creation. The result, an uninhibited expression that transcends an artists conscious faculties.
