Jordan Rountree’s latest entry in his ongoing CHTHONIC ARCHIVE performance series, Waiting for GTA, explores the dread of automation and obsolescence as well as estrangement from nature and society through a darkly humorous lens. Continuing his hybrid form of noir-inflected radio art and masked gestural dance-drama, Rountree draws literary inspiration from Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot and the collected writings of Jim Morrison titled The American Night. The text is accompanied by an original minimal trance music score that samples video game soundtracks and 80s music, chopping them up and distorting them beyond recognition. As the protagonist of Waiting for GTA gradually loses control of his world, he holds out hope that he’ll feel better when the multi-year wait for the next Grand Theft Auto game finally ends.
Baert Gallery’s new Melrose Hill location will host Jordan Rountree's performance and premiere his multi-channel video installation Études.
Christina Catherine Martinez will deliver the opening performance.
