Pond Society is pleased to present "Far From Home," Simone Kennedy Doig's first solo exhibition in Asia. A mother lies in hospital, framed by her children. A gorgeous girl poses by a metro station in Berlin. One child swings and another watches. A tall man in a short-sleeved shirt stands in a bar in Trinidad.
Simone says, with a shy modesty, that all she does is paint her life. And there is a deliberate smallness to the scope of gentle and everyday, reminiscent of the photos that a teenage girl might plaster to the wall around her mirror: family, friends, cute outfits. They are painted from memore and through collage. There's a recurring lick of potter's pink and cobalt blue.
